Dear Fellow Bird Lover and Nature Enthusiast,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to you on behalf of the Putnam Highlands Audubon Society (PHAS) to share some important news regarding the future of our organization and the conservation efforts we are so passionate about.

As you know, our chapter has long been dedicated to protecting the birds and habitats of the Hudson Highlands Region. Over the years, our community’s support has allowed us to carry out essential education programs in the form of guided bird walks and lectures and maintain three wildlife sanctuaries, but unfortunately, the increasing costs of running a chapter and sustaining our efforts have placed a strain on our resources.

After much careful consideration, and with great reluctance, we have come to the decision to introduce a membership program for the first time in our history. This was not a decision we made lightly, but it is necessary to ensure that we can continue to fulfill our mission of bird conservation and habitat preservation, especially in these challenging times.

As a member of the Putnam Highlands Audubon Society, your support will help us to:

• Maintain and preserve DeRahm, Watergrass, and Reese Sanctuaries, which serve as vital refuges for bird species and other wildlife.

• Provide educational programs and community outreach to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our natural environment.

• Fund a website and marketing administrator which will help us to effectively deliver our message to our members. 

We understand that this is a significant change, and we want to reassure you that all funds raised through this membership program will directly support PHAS. Your membership will be a vital part of our ability to continue the work we do and ensure that future generations can experience the beauty of our region’s birds and wildlife.

We hope that you will join us in this new chapter of the Putnam Highlands Audubon Society. Together, we can continue our important work to protect the natural world around us.
